A Place Filled With The Tastiest Food Spots | Markthal, Rotterdam

At the beginning of March, I officially had a week off from school. I still had to do a lot of things for school but I didn’t have to go to class, which gave me a lot more freedom. On Friday my parents and I decided it was time to go somewhere because we had been inside too long. Most of the time we just cycle to Leiden, but this time we got in the car and drove to Rotterdam. When I stayed in Rotterdam two years ago, I went to Markthal for the first time so I recommended we go there. Of course I brought my camera with me and in this blog post you’ll see why you should visit Markthal as well ??

Markthal | Ds. Jan Scharpstraat 298, Rotterdam

If you aren’t Dutch, you might wonder what the Markthal is. Well, the Markthal is that it is the first indoor market place in The Netherlands. It’s based in Rotterdam, nearby Rotterdam Blaak train station. In 2014 this indoor market place was opened and since then, lots of tourists have visited it. The unique thing about the Markthal is the building. In the photos above you can see what it looks like and understand why it is unique. The bottom half of the building is filled with different restaurants and other type of food stands. In the top half people actually live. How awesome would that be? If you live in the top part of the Markthal?

The other thing I really like about the building is the ceiling. It’s something you keep looking at when you’re walking around. In the photos below you can see what it kind of looks like but in real life it is even better. The ceiling is filled with fruits, vegetables, flowers and more. ?

Besides the standard fruit and vegetable stands, which belong at a market, there are a lot of restaurants, stores and other vendors that have a stand in the Markthal. You can find everything from frozen yoghurt and churros to a tapasbar and a chocolate company. On top of some of the stands is actually space to sit and eat, like at Fresh Food Friends or Delifrance. To give you an example of what it looks like inside the Markthal, you can check this map. If you’re looking for a specific stand, just look through the different categories until you find what you are looking for.

I do have two favorites in the Markthal and I just have to share them with you. While we were walking around all of the different stands, we actually found Cooking store Habitas. This is a store filled with baking stuff and cooking accessoires. If you have read some of my previous blog posts, you might know that I am really into baking so of course I had to have a look into this store. They have lots of baking accessoires, like different size tins and also a big selection of cookbooks. Definitely worth a visit if you’re into cooking of baking, just like me.

From last time I went to Markthal, Rotterdam I could still remember this donut stand. Of course I would remember a donut stand, who wouldn’t? Anyway, this time we went there again. It’s just such a colorful stand that you just have to go and look at all of the lovely donuts. Donut Express sells mini donuts, luxe donuts and also donut holes. A box with six luxe donuts only costs € 8,50, which isn’t bad for what you get! ?

While we wandered around, I already have some places in mind I want to go to next time I am there. One of those is Churros & Sweets, because churros are so good. Besides a snack like churros, I would also like to go to Jamie’s Italian to have lunch or dinner. Markthal, Rotterdam wasn’t as busy as I remember it being last time so if you’re in Rotterdam, definitely go to the Markthal if you’re looking for a place to have some food. Have you ever been to Markthal, Rotterdam? What kind of food would you like to have when you’re there?

Love,

Neeltje

Mooie foto’s!
