Birthday In Three, Two, One | DIY Decorations & Treats

Time has flown by this year, because in three days it will be the 20th of December. And what does that mean? Well, you may have guessed it by reading the title… It will be my nineteenth birthday (mark your calendars)! And since I will celebrate this with my friends and family, I will need some treats and decorations to really make it feel like a birthday. So here I will share some really tasty but quick treats to make and a DIY decoration!

First off I will start with some really easy treats to serve your guests. The first is one we make at almost every birthday and I think it’s the most simple and quick one. You’ll need: wraps, smoked salmon or chicken (whatever you like better or just do both), herb or garlic butter, some rocket salad or lettuce and skewers. You just lay out your wrap, put on the butter of your choice, add the lettuce or rocket salad and lastly add the smoked salmon or chicken. Now roll up the wrap, cut it in smaller pieces, put in a skewer to keep the wrap rolled up and you’re done!

Now on to the next treat, which is one that includes cheese mmm. For this you’ll need: puff pastry, olive oil, thyme and grated cheese. First slice the puff pastry in strokes that are about 5 cm wide. Slice as many as you would like and then make them curled, like a cheese straw (which we are making).

After that the only thing left to do is mix three tablespoons of olive oil with two teaspoons of thyme and spread this over the strokes of puff pastry. And after that you add as much grated cheese to them as you would like and then put them in a preheated oven (200 °C) for about 20 minutes. The great thing about these is that you can make them as big or small as you would like. And the last treat are my little muffin tin pizzas, which you can read about here!

On to the decoration DIY… Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of bunting decorations. Most of them are with texts like: “Sweet Dreams” or “Be Happy”. So I thought: “Why don’t I make my own bunting with Happy Birthday?” So I did. For this DIY you’ll need: magazines, a font you like, cardboard or just some thicker paper, thread, scissors and glue.

Step one: Choose the font you want to work with, draw out the letter of “Happy Birthday” on the cardboard or thicker paper and cut those out. Step two: Look through the magazines you have and look for a nice scenery, pattern or color you would like the letters to have and glue the letter on the back of that page. Step three: Cut around the letter and do this to all the other letters. Step four: When you’re finished with that, start creating holes in the letters so you can attach them together. Step five: Take some small pieces of the thread and knot the letters to eachother. Step six: When you’ve knotted all the letters together, get four longer pieces of thread (I decided to have one say happy and the other say birthday otherwise it would be too long to hang) and knot these to the beginning and end of your bunting so you can hang it up. And voilà your “Happy Birthday” bunting is done!

Now I’ve given you a little peek into some things that I will be having on my birthday. I hope that this has given you some inspiration for your birthday or maybe even a New Years Eve or Christmas party. After creating this post, I’ve gotten in to the birthday mood but I will have to wait another three days… In the meantime, I would love to know: What is your favorite treat out of this post? And will you make this decoration DIY for your birthday as well?
