Summer, are you here already? I can’t wait because I want to enjoy the sunshine, go traveling and discover new hotspots. Right now I have already found a hotspot I will likely visit a lot during summer: Brasserie Buitenhuis in Valkenburg. The look of Brasserie Buitenhuis is unique and that’s what got me interested in the first place. After going there a couple of times, there’s a lot more to love about this hotspot. Have you already gotten curious? Well, then you should definitely read this blog post because I am sharing all about Brasserie Buitenhuis in Valkenburg!
Brasserie Buitenhuis | J. Pellenbargweg 2, Valkenburg
Not many people are familiar with Valkenburg, but Brasserie Buitenhuis is actually located just outside of Leiden so it isn’t that far away. Besides the location of Brasserie Buitenhuis, it is near the water (Valkenburgse Meer), which makes it the perfect summer hotspot since you are able to spend time near the water as well.
I don’t know many restaurants that are actually inside of a greenhouse. Do you? I think it’s really unique and makes this a real hotspot. The greenhouse is filled with vintage items and of course lots of plants. It’s very photogenic, from the inside and outside. On the outside they have terrace, which is wrapped all around the greenhouse. Since the weather was very nice on the day Eline and I went to Brasserie Buitenhuis, we decided to sit down on the terrace in front of the greenhouse so we could enjoy the sun as well.
While browsing through menu, we already ordered some drinks. Ice tea green of course. They have a large menu because you are able to have breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacks (sweet or salty) and dinner at Brasserie Buitenhuis. Eline and I had a look at the menu and both made a decision. Eline wanted to get something with salmon so she decided to get the smoked salmon sandwich with apple, green herbs and spinach. I got the hummus of tomato with cheese, “zure bom” and nut salad. Both of our dishes might sound simple, but they were both really good! I would definitely get this again next time.
A couple of days after Eline and I went to Brasserie Buitenhuis for lunch, my parents and I had dinner there as well. This way I was able to try something else as well. My mom and I both got the Fattoush salad with feta cheese, tomato, chickpeas, Lebanese bread and bell pepper yogurt dressing. Believe me, this was the biggest salad I had ever had in my life. I didn’t even get to finish it because it was so big but it was really delicious! So if I would get that salad again, I would share it with someone haha.
After Eline and I finished our lunch (and talked a lot), we actually wanted to get something else. Why not? haha. So while taking a look at their menu again, I spotted something I recognized: lemon poppy seed cake. I actually made my own lemon poppy seed cupcakes so I really wanted to try this cake. Eline was also very interested so we both got a piece and enjoyed eating it in the sunshine. I really liked the lemon poppy seed cake in combination with the cream cheese frosting.
As you can tell, I really like Brasserie Buitenhuis. First of all, the location is awesome, the decor in the greenhouse is very inviting and the food is very delicious. So, in conclusion: it’s definitely worth a visit. Definitely on a summer day. This summer you’ll be able to find me here often.
