Long flights bring you to great adventures. But the question is, how do you conquer a long flight? That’s right, with some long flight essentials! Since I went to New York a week ago, and my flight took over seven hours, I do have a couple of essentials I like to take on a long flight like this and I want to share them with you. Maybe my long flight essentials will help you while packing for your next trip… ✈️
⋮ Beauty & Hygiene ⋮
Flying takes a lot out of your body and especially your skin. That’s why it’s important to hydrate your skin when you’re on a long flight. I use a hydrating face cream from Biodermal, which has helped my skin a lot over the past weeks. With that, I never leave the house without my Rosebud Salve. This is the best lip balm there is and keeps my lips hydrated all the time (so that’s why it’s a flight essential for me as well).
Hygiene is also a big thing, not only on a long flight but when traveling in general. A small bottle of hand sanitizer can go a long way. Maybe I am kind of germ freak but I hate the felling of my hands when they are not clean. Using a little big of hand sanitizer makes my hands feel a lot better until I get to a actually wash my hands. Besides that, a pack of hand wipes is also good because with the wipes you can clean the table of your seat on the plane or any other thing you would like to clean before using it.
⋮ Tech & Entertainment ⋮
I am very careful when it comes to my MacBook so that’s when an iPad gets in handy. One of the reasons why I ever got an iPad was so that I could also work on my blog while I was traveling. On my iPad I have so many different applications but of course my favorite has to be Netflix. To watch Netflix on the plane, a pair of headphones are so essential. If I ever leave the house without headphones, I just can’t survive the day (since Apple has changed their headphones make sure to take the ones you can also use on a plane if you want to watch a movie and use your own headphones).
There is a possibility that your iPhone or iPad will run out of charge while on a long flight. When you’re bored, you tend to use them a lot and with a portable charger you can really save the day. If you don’t want to watch a movie or listen to music during a flight, reading a book is also an option. Whenever I go on holiday I always bring a book but never end up reading it. So maybe I should change that…
⋮ Random things ⋮
Of course there are tons of random things I bring on a flight but an important random thing is food. Yes, I like to take a couple of my own healthy snacks whenever I am traveling. It’s always nice to bring your own snacks so you can have them whenever you like. While we are on the topic, chewing gum is a definite must. Not only for when you’ve had some food, but chewing gum also prevents your ears from ‘plopping’ (yawning will also work).
If you want to sleep during your long flight, you really need a sleeping mask, especially if you’re like me and can’t sleep when it’s not completely dark. Besides that, I always take and wear some type of jacket or sweater because it can be cold during a flight (sometimes you get a blanket, which is also pretty great). The last two random things that are essential on a long flight are a pen (for when you have to fill out a form) and Bach Rescue Remedy drops. You just put a couple of drops underneath your tongue and it will calm you down.
⋮ Tips & Tricks ⋮
#1 || On most long flights you are able to watch movies. But it can be so annoying if you don’t feel like watching any of the movies provided. So did you know you can actually download movies and series on Netflix so you can watch them offline? It’s a real life saver if you are following a series and want to watch more episodes during your long flight. Psst, you can also do this for playlists on Spotify and podcasts on the Apple Podcast app.
#2 || During the flight it’s important to stay hydrated. I know this can be hard, especially when you forget to drink or don’t feel like drinking water. That’s why it’s a great idea to bring your own ’empty’ water bottle, fill it up after you pass security so you have your own water bottle with you and don’t have to wait for the air hostesses to walk around with something to drink.
#3 || Make sure to stretch every now and again. Especially on long flights you are mostly sat down the whole time, so make sure to walk around or stand up so get your blood flowing. In this post are some yoga stretches you can do while on an airplane for your neck, shoulders, back and legs.
And those were my long flight essentials and some tips to conquer your next (long) flight! I can’t wait to share more of my trip to New York in the next couple of blog posts, so watch out for that. In the mean time… What’s the longest flight you’ve been on? What are your essentials?
