I Did A Small Bedroom Makeover While Being In Self-Isolation | Interior Inspiration

What’s self-isolation doing to you? Some people are cleaning everything, others start gardening or are doing jobs around the house. Well, for me it started with a room makeover. This makeover had been in the making for a long time (read: two years) and I was finally planning on actually starting this makeover. Of course I had to document this makeover and share the result on my blog, so here we are! Are you ready to see the final result of my bedroom makeover? ⋙ e n j o y ⋘

⋙ Painting

Above you can see a before and after. It might not be very clear in the ‘before’ photo below but at first two walls in my room were this light pink color. In combination with the light grey, I loved it at first. After a couple of years my style started to change and I wanted to make a change to my bedroom again. So, there we are. I have been talking about painting my room for about two years. When I was seriously thinking about painting my room, I actually bought the white paint. That was two years ago. Until now, I didn’t have time and felt like paining.

While in self-isolation I got the final essentials for painting, rearranged my bedroom and started to tape the edges. Opening the paint was a pain in the ass but when we finally got it open, I started painting. At first it was fun but after one coat, I didn’t like it anymore. Painting two walls by yourself is boring. With friends or family it’s so much more fun. Anyways, I pushed through and spent a full afternoon painting the two walls in my bedroom. When the paint started drying, I was already pleased with the end result. My bedroom looked a lot brighter and bigger. White in combination with light grey are perfect as a base and to decorate with other colored items.

⋙ Decor

With white I was able to go any interior style I wanted, that’s why I chose it. Over the years my interior and fashion style have changed a lot. I am all for the neutrals colors and bohemian vibes with a modern twist. So for decor I actually replaced the white shelve with a wooden shelve. The white one got discolored from being in sunlight and I love a wooden accent on a white wall. On this shelve I put a black planter with my beloved monstera plant, some crystals, another plant and two posters from Photowall. Besides posters, Photowall has wall murals, wallpaper, canvas prints and framed posters. I knew I wanted a bohemian vibe for my bedroom, so I got two prints: one with palm leaves & one with a white archway. With the posters I actually received these wooden hangers but I decided to frame them instead. I love the look of the two next to each other on the wooden shelve. Putting posters in a space can already make such a big difference. As you might have noticed in the photos, I also added something to the wall above my bed. This quote is one of my faves and when I saw Claudia Sulewski added this to the wall in her living room, I wanted it as well. This quote has also been lying around my room for two years… oops. Can we take a moment for this quote because it was so hard to attach to the wall. I am such a perfectionist and of course the first time I wanted to attach a word to the wall, I wasn’t pleased and accidentally chipped the paint. Some tears were shed but it’s up and I love how it looks.

⋙ Bedding

To tie everything together, I had to update my bedding. I have had the dotted bedding for such a long time and it was time for something new. This cotton beige colored bedding is very neutral and it’s super soft. Of course this was the perfect excuse for me to get some new decorative pillows as well. I searched and searched for the perfect ones to place on my bed and luckily I found them! The pillows were really the final touch to finish the new look of my bedroom.

For my desk I decided to switch the dresser part to the other side so now it’s a lot more open next to my bed. I also switched my chair to this Eames look-a-like one I got years ago. My desk never looks this clean so take a moment to appreciate it. At first I really had to get used to the new look of my room but I actually love it right now! It’s crazy how the color of a wall can change the complete look of the room. I am already looking forward to getting a house and completely giving it a makeover in the same style my room is right now. I think it will look like a crazy plant lady house but in a minimalistic way. Can you tell I am already looking forward to this… Have you ever done makeover to your home or a specific room? What’s your favorite part of this makeover?

Love,

Neeltje
