“Another hotspot post?” Yes! I am sorry if I am boring you with these hotspot posts but lately Leiden has been stepping up its game. I just keep finding the best places and I have to share those with you as well! Leiden might be small, but there are enough hotspots to discover. One of those is Lab071 and after visiting it once, I know this will be one of my go-to places. Why? Well, that’s what I am sharing in this blog post! Get ready to be tempted and wanting to visit Lab071 as well.
LAB071 | POELWETERINGPAD 5, LEIDEN
A little outside of the city centre, and near the central station, that’s where you’ll find Lab071. Ever since it was announced, I had been following Lab071 on Instagram. I had been planning on going there ever since it opened. Right at the end of October, Eline and I finally went! At Lab071 it’s all about veggies. As they say themselves: “Veggies first!”. If you know me, you know that I like this mindset.
Did you know Lab071 is located in this formal anatomic laboratory? Well, I knew this but right now it’s way different. Now it’s all about researching, creating and preparing dishes with lovely vegetables. The interior and feeling of Lab071 is very modern, sustainable and light. One thing I absolutely love is the open kitchen (so you can really keep an eye on the food) and the plant hexagons in the wall (like, why wouldn’t you love this detail). The combination of white tiles, plants and wood is my fave. Besides that, it’s very spacious. There is plenty of room for groups but also for two people. One thing that I noticed while being there, it’s so light because there are windows everywhere! This made it even feel more spacious because it kind of felt like we were sitting outside instead of inside.
After appreciating the look and feel of Lab071, and talking a ton, Eline and I finally got a chance to have a look at the menu. At Lab071 you can have breakfast, lunch, barfood, dinner and cocktails. When looking at the dishes, they mostly consist veggies, which I love. For drinks, they had lots of options like smoothies, homemade iced tea and more. Eline actually ordered one of their smoothies (they had available that day) and I (of course) got an ice tea green #boring.
While browsing through the menu, one thing immediately stood out to me… burrata. When there’s burrata on the menu, you better believe that’s what I am getting. I tried it for the first time somewhere this year and I just love it. The full burrata dish was cherry tomato, mint, pistachio and toast. Eline went for sandwich marinated salmon with beetroot, dill, horseradish salad and toast. As an extra side, Eline got avocado. We both loved our dishes so much, we stopped talking just to enjoy it even more.
As you can tell by my excitement, trying Lab071 was a big success. I loved the burrata I got and can’t wait to try other veggie dishes. Since Eline and I went here, I have been thinking about having my birthday dinner at Lab071. So, they might see me again real soon! Oh, and let’s take a moment for the service at Lab071, because a former colleague of mine, works at Lab071! She’s such a sweetheart (hi Anna) and very helpful when you don’t know what to order, so don’t forget to tip her. If you are in Leiden and want to visit Lab071, you can find it at: Poelweteringpad 5 in Leiden. Have you ever been to Lab071? Or to another hotspot like this one?
Love,
Neeltje

I know right! I am sure you would love it as well.
I’ve lived in Leiden for a couple of years so i was tempted to check out your post! When I was living there they already had a couple of beautiful cafe’s and lunchrooms/restaurant. Seems like now there is even more! This place looks great. Love how they have many healthy stuff and the interior is stunning.
