I believe almost two years ago my friends and I went away for the weekend, just to relax and spend time together. After that weekend away, we decided we had to do that again. So around the end of last year, we were looking at Airbnb’s, really liked one and actually ended up booking it. May 10 came a lot quicker than we thought so it was finally time to pack our bags and head to Ouwerkerk, Zeeland for our girls weekend!

May 10, girls weekend time! Isabella picked me up around 1:00 pm and it took us a little over 1,5 hours to arrive in Ouwerkerk, Zeeland. We drove immediately to our Airbnb, which I found a while ago. I love to use Airbnb to find somewhere to stay because you’ll find some very unique places, just like the one I found. It’s called an A-house, because of the shape of the house (as you can see in the photos above). It was a little of a struggle to find the A-house, since it’s kind of hidden between the trees. Anouk and Maja arrived a little before us so they helped us find the A-house. When entering the location of the A-house, we had such a cute garden with many daisies everywhere. I expected the A-house to be small, but in real life it was pretty spacious with a kitchen, fireplace, living area and a door that let to the bathroom. Then there was a staircase which let to the two bedrooms on the first floor, one at the front of the A-house and one at the back. But the staircase didn’t have a railing, so that was something we had to get used to. I thought it was interesting the A-house would be heated with the fireplace, which is something I am not used to (luckily Naomi was haha). If you are also looking for an unique place to stay? Definitely look through all of the options on Airbnb and get a discount on your booking if you book through this link*!
Anyways, after walking through the A-house and settling in, we went grocery shopping and also explored the area around our Airbnb. We walked through some woods, along meadows. On my Instagram Stories I posted a video of us walking around and all your could hear were the birds. It was so relaxing! I think we walked for a little under an hour and that’s when we went to the A-house, started cooking dinner, ate the dinner and relaxed while watching series for the rest of the evening.

On our second day, we wanted to visit a city in the neighborhood of where we were staying. We looked up some places the night before, and decided on Zierikzee! It was only a ten minute drive and parking was also very easy (and cheap btw). When we walked onto the main square of Zierikzee, there was so much going on. Later on that day, we actually discovered they were celebrating 800 years of Zierikzee. After being confused for a little, we started to walk around the square and also explored the streets behind the square. This is where we found many cute shops, like “Dit Dus by Co”, which is an interior store with so many adorable items, and “Plein Montmaertre”, where you will see this big wall art piece (great Instagram opportunity) and get real Parisian vibes.
Can we just take a moment for the weather we had on this day? It was such nice weather and this made our visit to Zierikzee even better. Anyways, we walked to the other side of the square and this is where we ended up at “De Haven” (the port) and “Zuidhavenpoort”. This is when we realized we were all pretty hungry and wanted to find a place to have lunch. Walking along the water, we sat down on the terrace of “Café De Biet”.
We enjoyed the sun and food on the terrace of “Café De Biet” and then decided to walk back to our cars and actually find a beach. Zeeland is surrounded by water so we thought there must be a beach nearby. After driving around for sometime, we found a place where we were able to walk on a small beach, look over the water and we even saw the “Zeelandburg”. On the beach we found so many beautiful sea shells (which I might use for a DIY). After almost blowing away on the small beach, we hopped back into our cars and drove to the supermarket to get some last minute things for our dinner and the evening. When we arrived at our A-house, it was still very sunny, so we sat in the garden until it was time to make dinner again.

Every day we slept in our Airbnb I woke up around 7:00 am because of the curtains. Next time I go anywhere, I am for sure taking my sleeping mask with me, so if a room isn’t completely dark, I am still able to sleep early in the morning. Since I was up so early, I decided to get out of bed without trying to wake anyone, get dressed and make a Mother’s Day breakfast. If I say so myself, that breakfast was pretty good (with warm croissants, fresh strawberries and more).
After enjoying our breakfast, we still had some time to kill before we had to leave. So we cleaned up, packed all our stuff (made sure we packed everything) and left our A-house. In the end, Isabella and I had to drive back because she forgot something so it took us a little longer to get back home haha. I thought it was such a fun and relaxing weekend! A girls weekend away is such a good idea if you don’t see each other that often and want to explore a place in your own country. We are already planning on going somewhere in the future (read: outside the country & a city trip)… I can’t wait! Have you ever been on a girls weekend? Have you ever booked something through Airbnb?
Love,
Neeltje
