Looking Back On 2018 To Look Forward To 2019 | Neeltje’s Thoughts: 2018

Dear 2018,

Why did you went by so quick? I feel like I was writing my round up of 2017 just a couple of weeks ago… And now I am here writing a round up of my 2018 and wow… What a year it has been! 2018 has definitely been the year of self reflection, changes and doing a lot of what I love. Of course I have also had some challenges and learnt from mistakes. Since I love to reflect on every year to look back at what I accomplished and maybe even get an idea of what I will be doing in the new year. Let’s start with looking back on 2018!

┆ LIFE ┆

In my life there were some big changes this year. When 2018 started I had just gotten used to the fact that I was actually graduated and started working more at my job. Besides that, I still worked at a restaurant on the weekends. Sometimes it was a lot. I felt like I threw myself too quick into working more and wasn’t really thinking about what I wanted to do and what I needed. Elba had the same feeling as me and convinced me to take a yoga class with her and it changed my life. Ever since then, I have been doing yoga at least once a week and also been working out three times a week. I never thought I would be a person to go to the gym but now I can’t go without it. Working out and yoga make me feel better, fitter and more energized. I am so happy I chose to do something for myself (like I talk about in this blog post).

Then around June I started looking for a new job. I applied to a couple and got an interview at a communication agency, got a second interview and was hired in a little over a week. This meant I would start at the end of August. It all went so fast but I am so happy I found something new and that varies every single day. It is hard work but I have learned a lot in five months so I am very grateful for that.

┆ TRAVEL ┆

Traveling is a big part of every year. At the beginning of each year I try to plan trips for the rest of the year. So that’s also what I did in 2018. I had no idea of where I wanted to go or the cities I wanted to see. In 2018 I ended up going to Paris with Lotte, Berlin with my family and New York with my mom!

➵ July 29 – August 2, Paris

Oui oui Paris! My first trip during the summer was to Paris with Lotte. I had been to Paris two times before but since it’s such a large and beautiful city, I couldn’t wait to go again. We were in Paris for five days so we had plenty of time to explore the whole city. We saw everything from the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, Musée du Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Le Marais and so much more. It was such an amazing trip so you don’t want to miss the travel diary I made about our time in Paris… Read my Paris travel diary here!

➵ August 13 – August 16, Berlin

After Paris my family and I went to Berlin for a couple of days. I think traveling with friends and traveling with family differs so much. When my friends and I travel, I mostly make a list of things I want to do. When I go on holiday with my family, I just let my parents make plans. This is why a holiday like this is a little more relaxing. We had been to Berlin before but I couldn’t really remember anything about this trip so it was like I was wandering around a new city. If you want to know more about my trip to Berlin, you should definitely read my Berlin travel diary.

➵ October 21 – October 28, New York

The last trip I took in 2018 is to my all time favorite city, New York City! My mom and I booked this trip pretty spontaneously back in January and I was so excited to go! New York has so much to offer and the other two times I was there, it was only for four days. This time we were there a week and it felt like I knew the city so well. When we walked somewhere, I recognized so much. We saw so much, discovered a lot of new places and I took many photos. Every time I look back at the photos and videos I took, I get teary-eyed because I miss this city so much. Lotte and I are already planning to go together next time… Get to know all about my New York trip in this travel diary.

┆ FAVORITES ┆

Over 2018 I have definitely developed a couple of new favorites. Of course I mention my favorites every once in awhile in a Loves Lately post, but I also wanted to share some other favorites I’ve loved over 2018. My favorite…

… memory of 2018 is visiting my favorite city again with my mom. I am still so happy we went to New York again and I can’t wait to go again.

… thing I did in 2018 is stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new activities. I have actually found something that has kind of changed my life, working out.

… event of 2018 is the Justin Timberlake concert. JT has always been one of my favorite artists and in 2018 my mom and I got to go to one of his concerts again.

┆ NEW YEARS GOALS ┆

Like I’ve mentioned before, I never really do New Years resolutions. They are kind of unnecessary and mostly don’t work because they put a lot of pressure on you. That’s why I have made a list of three goals for 2019. First, I want to keep working on myself, like I did in 2018. Second, I want to learn new skills. To keep learning is important to me and in 2019 I want to do more with design. Third, I want to get stronger. Not only physically but definitely also mentally. These are the goals I will be working towards during 2019.

Well, that’s my round up of 2018! Thanks for the memories 2018. I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for me. I want to wish you a very happy, healthy and sparkly new year! ☆ What is your best memory of 2018? What are you looking forward to in 2019?

Love,

Neeltje

Seems you had a pretty busy year! To me traveling is important also. I always try to wrap my work around it (that’s possible because I’m a freelance writer). I just came back for a lightning visit to New York. Loved the vibe over there! And I took my kids to amazing Egypt. Best wishes for 2019!

Looks like you had a lot of great things happening in 2018 😀 One thing I want to do in 2019 is be more organized about everything, making goals, and actually going for those goals. I’d love to do some travel next year, but may have to cut back to focus on other things. Oh, compromise.
