I think I can honestly say that this was my most productive summer EVER. I knew this was going to be a busier summer than normal but not as much as it eventually was. I didn’t mind because I got a lot of great opportunities, went on holiday, saved a lot of money, worked on my blog and more. In this post I will be discussing some of my ‘loves’ this summer!
Right after I finished my last exams at school, I started working two to four days a week. The other days I wanted to spend as much time with my friends before everyone would go on holiday. Of course I also had some days where I just relaxed, watched series and read blogs. I think I watched all three season of Orphan Black in two weeks. I just couldn’t stop watching because you find out something new every episode and you want to find out everything, so you continue watching. Besides that, Made in Chelsea LA has started and I love it. Los Angeles is almost on top of my travel bucket list and since I already like to watch Made in Chelsea (hello British accent), this is the perfect combination.
Yes, of course I had to include my trip to New York and Washington D.C. at the end of July. I had been looking forward to this trip for so long and it was amazing. I am not going to discuss the trip again because I already did this in a two part diary of New York (read part one and two here) and Washington (click here). But I do have a favorite hotspot in both cities.
In New York we went to The High Line and after that we decided to walk around the neighborhood for a bit. This is when we ended up at Doughnut Plant and they have the most delicious donuts there *insert heart eyes emoji here*. And in Washington I loved this place called Bean & Bite. This was across from our hotel and they had to most delicious ham and cheese croissants!
While being on holiday I check new posts of the blogs I follow every once in a while. So when we got back to our hotel after a long day of exploring, I would get in to my bed and check Bloglovin’. After reading almost everything, I went on the hunt for some new blogs to follow and that’s when I found two that I just had to share with you. The first one is Miss Joesten (a blog by Fleur) because she takes lovely photos and I love her writing style. The second one is A Pair & A Spare (which is a DIY blog) and it gives me so much inspiration. So if you are in need of some inspiration, check it out!
Until now, most of my summer would consist of laying bed, watching movies and doing nothing. But this summer I wanted to be productive and earn money. That’s when I decided to start working at Home at Home, where I also did my internship earlier this year. It’s an interior design webshop and if you want to know what I got to do for them, you should definitely keep reading…
When I had a day off from work, I didn’t just want to sit around and do nothing. So when the weather was good, I made plans with my friends. On one of these days I went to Hortus Botanicus in Leiden with Lotte (my personal photographer haha). I hadn’t been here in years and I just felt like taking some photos. If you want to see more photos and the outfit I was wearing that day, check this post!
On the weekends I had to work at my ‘normal’ job, which is at a restaurant. But that meant I have to morning and beginning of the afternoon free to do something with my family. If you read more of my personal kind of posts, you might know that I think it’s really important to spend time with my family. So when we got the chance, we went to Leiden to enjoy a sunny afternoon at Van De Leur Leiden. I always get the organic iced tea here but unfortunately wasps also like this drink…
As you might have read in my latest Sunday post, I went to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam with my mom and grandma. I’ve always wanted to go there and now was the time. We saw art works from Rembrandt, Van Gogh and more. If you want to see more, definitely click here because I took lots of photos of our visit.
When I started working at Home at Home, I knew that at some point they would go to a fair. In January I went to Maison et Objet in Paris with them when I was an intern and I really liked that experience. So two weeks ago I spent four days at a fair with them and at the photo below you can see what the stand looked like. Awesome right?
To finish my summer holiday on a great note, my mom and I got some lunch at Brasserie Meelfabriek Zijlstroom. This restaurant is located in this old factory and the interior is really cool. I think this is one of my favorite places to go near Leiden, a true hotspot. It was such nice weather so we sat outside in the garden (they have fairy lights!) and enjoyed our delicious food.
Well, these were a couple of highlights (also known as ‘loves’) of my summer holiday. As you can tell, I did a lot. And I liked it! I had lots of fun, got to save some money, gained experience and so much more. I know I didn’t complete all of the goals I set for this summer but that’s okay. I also got to do lots of other things that I never thought I would. Anyways, what did you do on your summer holiday?
