Looking Back On Another Amazing Year | Neeltje’s Thoughts: 2016

I feel like I say this in every last post of the year but how quick has this year gone by… In my last post I already said how weird it is I am twenty-one and now I just have to say how strange it is that it almost 2017. At the moment I am actually in Antwerp, Belgium with Elba on a trip for both our birthdays. You’ll definitely read more about everything we did in my next blog post. In this one I am looking back on 2016 with some of my favorite photos and explaining what I am looking forward to in 2017

➭ Lessons I’ve Learned

Every year you’ll learn some lessons because not everything will go the way you thought it would. You can think of this in a negative way but I always try to think of it like I’ve learned something from it. Of course I had to share some of the lessons I’ve learned with you, because maybe these will sound familiar with you. First, if people are important enough, they will do anything to be and stay in your life. Some friendships or relationships aren’t here to last forever and you just have to be fine with that. This isn’t easy but it is harder to spend time on something that isn’t going to work out anyway. Second, work hard for what you want because then you’ll get it. This has been something that has been on my mind the whole year. You might not feel like it all the time but you should always think about your goal and work towards that. And lastly, travel as much as you can because it will open your eyes.

➭ Trips I Took

I don’t really do new years resolutions but in 2016 I really wanted to travel a lot and that’s what I did. On here you might have read a lot of travel diaries because I was fortunate enough to travel to Athens, London, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Milan and at the moment I am in Antwerp ✈️ If I hadn’t worked so hard at the beginning of the year, I definitely wouldn’t be able to travel as much as I did. If you want to read about what I have seen in all of these cities, just click here and read whatever travel diary you want.

➭ Things I Am Proud Of

During 2016 I experienced so many different things. Like I just said, not everything will be great but you can be proud of something if you’ve tried something new. In 2016 I definitely tried to get out of my comfort zone even more. For example, when I had to apply for an internship, I just did what I think was the right thing and it worked out great. Besides that I am also proud of myself that I pushed through even tough I wanted to quit. At the moment you might not feel like trying really hard to get something but in the end you will be proud of yourself when you’ve done it.

➭ What I Am Looking Forward To

Right now I already know 2017 is going to be a hectic but exciting year. I have a couple of things lined up and planned that make me very excited. First things first, I will be doing my drivers test at the end of February. Hopefully everything will be going as planned and I will get that. This means I will be able to jump into the car and maybe go on a little road trip with my friends. In 2017 I just want to be spontaneous and spend lots of time with my family and friends.

Like 2016, I also want to go and explore new cities. A couple of cities I really want to go to are Oxford, Bath, Edinburgh, Brighton and Lisboa. Yes, the majority is in the UK because since Eline and I went to London in the summer, I just want to be able to enjoy the British accents all freakin’ day. And last but not least, I might be able to finish my Communication studies in 2017. What I will doing after that is kind of up in the air but I do want to do a lot more with Thoughts in Style and maybe even start my own company type of thing. I already have some things in mind and over Christmas I got a couple of things that will definitely help me with getting where I want to be.

All of the things listed above are not really resolutions but just things I plan on doing in 2017. When I make resolutions, I always fail because I am way too ambitious with all of the things I want to achieve in the new year. 2016 was a year that went by so fast and I got to do and I’ve achieved some amazing things. Thank you for all of your support on here but also on other social media platforms. Without you 2016 would’t have been the same. Let’s make 2017 an amazing year as well! How was your 2016? What are your plans for the new year?
