The End Of One Decade And The Start Of Another | Neeltje’s Thoughts: My 2019

During Christmas it starts to sink in that the year is also coming to an end… Another year already over. This year ending is really weird because this is the first time I am thinking about the fact another decade is over. A decade. Oh my. It still feels like 2008 haha. Thoughts in Style is my digital diary, that everyone who has an internet connection can read, I also have to share my thoughts on 2019, what I’ve done, what I’ve learnt and what are my favorite memories. Let’s reflect on 2019 and look forward to 2020!

Neeltje's Thoughts My 2019

┆ A round up of my 2019 ┆

When I think about 2019, I feel like I literally did nothing. It feels like I was just writing my post looking back on 2018… Luckily there is a thing called ‘photos’ and since I like to capture a lot of things, I can scroll through all the photos I’ve taken over the past year and remind myself what I actually did.

I feel like 2019 was a pretty relaxed and comfortable year for me. Last year I got a new job, so that was a big change and over 2019 I’ve gotten used to it more and more and am starting to grow in my position. Besides that, I concisely spend more time with my friends and family. Right now I am so grateful for all the sweet friends I have and that’s why I think it’s important to make time for them. In 2019 I also made sure to put myself first. This is such a hard thing to do, but before I would constantly go over and beyond, which would bite me in the ass later. Towards the end of the year there are more things to do, so right now I am feeling extra tired. Luckily I have some days off so I will definitely be taking care of myself and rest as much as I can.

┆ My 2019 favorites ┆

Since I am all about sharing my faves, I have to share some of my favorite memories from 2019. So, not things but memories, because I’ve made a couple in 2019.

♥ My friends and I went on a girls weekend.

♥ It was Thoughts in Style’s fifth birthday. Can you believe I’ve been blogging for five years now?

♥ I traveled to Vienna, Austria with Lotte and really loved exploring this beautiful city.

♥ I spent a lot of time with my family and made this a priority as well. For example, I went to the reunion of my grandpa’s brothers with my grandma and got to know that family a little better.

♥ I went to a John Mayer concert, which has been on my bucket list for a long time and made me love John Mayer even more. That man can play guitar and sing live, oh my.

♥ I turned 24 and I got to celebrate this day with my close friends and family. Very simple but very lovely. I can’t wait to see what 24 has in store for me…

┆ What I plan on doing and accomplishing in 2020┆

Let’s forget that “New Year, New Me” bullsh*t and just set some goals or things you want to do in the new year. No pressure. I hate when people put pressure on me. Then I am like: “Nah, hard pass on that” and I won’t do it at all. Even when I put pressure on myself. So, pressure doesn’t work and resolutions bring a lot of pressure with them. That’s why I like to have some things in mind I would like to accomplish this year but without any obligation.

So, what I would like to do or accomplish in 2020 is…

… to travel more. So basic but I really want to travel more, see places, discover other cultures and meet new people. So, during January I will be looking at where I want to travel and with who and of course I will share my travel plans when I have them.

… to start actively start looking for an apartment. This is something I’ve started doing over 2019 because I actually went and looked at an apartment to buy. Just to see what it’s like to look at a house, everything that comes with it and what I have to pay attention to. This has also made me more aware of the money I need to have to buy or rent what I want.

… to find a better balance between work and my private life. It’s so hard to not be constantly working. Some days I do check my work phone too much and I have gotten better at it but I think I can do better. With that I also want to enjoy my weekends more and not be writing a blog post for upcoming Wednesday on Sunday evening. So, planning, planning and more planning.

… to discover new workouts or classes to follow. During 2019 I really got into a routine when it comes to working out but now I’ve gotten a little bored of it. That’s why I want to push myself and try different types working out and maybe even trying a new workout class.

… to work more creatively on my blog. Being creative is what I’ve always loved to do, in so many different ways. One of the things I’ve grown to love is design and play around with PhotoShop and photos. For my blog I want to do more with the photos I use in my blog posts. I’ve tried to do that in some posts already but I definitely want to do more with that and get create with the images I use on here.

… to start a memory book for 2020. This has also something to do with wanting to be more creative. This year I created a scrapbook for Lotte’s 21st birthday and for my parents 30th wedding anniversary. It was so much work but I love how it turned out, so I want to try and do this throughout 2020 as a memory book. With that I also want to take a analog camera with me so I can print the photos and use this in my memory book.

… to enjoy the moment. Very simple but very important, to enjoy the moment. Right here, right now.

I can’t believe it will be 2020 in about a week. I have a good feeling about 2020. Maybe it’s the double digits (I’ve had this thing with double digits for years), but I just have a gut feeling and like my best friend and I always say: “Trust your gut instinct and yourself.” So who knows. I want to close this blog post by saying: Happy New Year babes! And… you’ll hear from me soon, in 2020!

Love,

Neeltje
