I think it was after my first trip to NYC that I realized traveling wasn’t only about going to a new city and having some relaxation time. Traveling is also a way to learn more about yourself. That’s why the title of this post is 100% true (for me). Taking a trip is something I look forward to every single year. This year I had one planned to Valencia. Unfortunately that got canceled, but that does not mean I don’t want to think about traveling because it will make me sad. On the contrary! I love to dream about the cities that are still on my travel bucket list and look forward to visiting them. So, if you’re a (travel) dreamer like me, bring on the wanderlust.
➵ San Francisco, United States
I have been to the United States before. Read: visited New York three times and Washington DC once. Both cities are so different but lovely at the same time. Since the USA is such a large country, I do have a couple of places on my list. One on top of that list is definitely San Francisco. Why? First of all, the Golden Gate Bridge. That looks amazing. Besides that, I would love to go to LA (Downtown, Venice Beach) but I feel like San Francisco would be a chilled out version of that.
➵ Lisboa, Portugal
Europe has so much to offer. I am very lucky to be living in Europe and be so close to so many different countries I am able to visit. I love city tripping, so I have been to a lot of cities already (Paris, Edinburgh, Berlin & more). One city in Europe that is still on my travel bucket list is Lisbon or Lisboa. It looks like this city is filled with cute, small streets that scream for a photo. From the Pink Street to Tram 28 (the yellow one you constantly see in photos) and Amalfa. What I’ve read is you’re able to travel to Sintra from Lisboa and wander around the pastel colored palaces, which I really want to do as well! The plan was for Eline and me to look at a Lisboa city trip in the fall but I am not sure if this is still happening… Otherwise, something to look forward to another time!
➵ Marrakech, Morocco
When I imagine a magical place, I think of Marrakech. Even though I have never been, I have seen photos of it (which you can admire above) and my dad has been before so I’ve heard his stories as well. I am very interested in visiting this place. It’s just outside of Europe and even though it is kind of close, it still feels like a completely different world. I want to stay in a beautiful rabat, learn all about the culture and wander around the different markets. So, of course this magical place has to be in my travel bucket list.
➵ Florence, Italy
Another gem in Europe has to be Florence. Italy is a fairly large country and it has a selection of popular cities. The country really gives me the ultimate holiday vibes. Rome, Milan (which I visited in 2017) and Florence! Both Rome and Florence are actually on my list, but Florence a little bit more. By now I am sure everybody has seen the beautiful Duomo in Florence on social media platforms. I just want to see it in real life and wander around the streets around it. The city looks very dreamy to me.
➵ Brugge, Belgium
Belgium might not be on top of everyone’s travel bucket list but I have been to Antwerp for example, loved it and it’s easy to combine with visiting another city in Belgium or on your way from Amsterdam to Paris. Another city I want to visit in Belgium is Brugge or Bruges. From the photos and videos I have seen of Brugge it has a real romantic, English feeling. It reminded me a little of Oxford since it has lots of bridges, canals and you are able to go on a boat. I think it would be fun to go on a road trip with my friends and go to different cities in Belgium. I just came up with this but now I want to organize this and hopefully visit Brugge as one of the cities in Belgium!
After making this list and writing about why I want to visit these cities, wanderlust is creeping up again… Right now it is very difficult to travel, but it’s always nice to think about what I want to do whenever it is possible to visit these cities again and enjoy what they have to offer! Of course there are many more places on my travel bucket list, but these stand out to me at the moment. Never enough dreams about traveling… What cities are on your travel bucket list? And why these places?
Love,
Neeltje
