For some people fall is their favorite season and for other people fall is horrible. I am definitely one of those people that just loves the fall season. Why? Because it feels so cozy. But what to do during fall? I’ve got you covered! I made a list of my fave things to do during fall and I am sure you’ll love those fall activities as well.
“Autumn leaves and pumpkins please.”
⌇ Go on a walk ⌇
Fall walks are the best walks (when it’s not raining). I love the sound of walking through the woods and hearing the crunching leaves. I know, I know. During fall it can be very cold outside. The solution? Layers, layers and even more layers! I just love to layer up, wear thick sweaters and comfy scarves. A walk can be so relaxing. And while walking, I always discover pretty things to take photos of, so that’s also nice. After, sit down somewhere and get a hot cup of coffee, tea or chocolate to warm up again.
⌇ Apple picking ⌇
When fall peaks around the corner, the apple trees are almost full of apples. Yes, it’s apple picking season! I remember from when I was little, we used to go to this apple orchard and pick our own apples. So, I’ve actually proposed to do this again this year because I think it’s a very fall’ish’ thing to do. I am sure that if I go apple picking, I will post about it on my Instagram account…
⌇ Visit a pumpkin patch ⌇
What screams fall more than pumpkins? Well, nothing and that’s why pumpkins can’t be missing from this list. From my knowledge, we don’t have pumpkin patches like they have in the USA. I think that’s pretty sad because I would love to walk through a field and pick my own pumpkins. But I have found the next best thing. In Lisse, near where I live, Monique from Monique’s Pumpkin Factory fills her front and back garden with her own harvested pumpkins. It’s incredible how many different shapes, sizes and colored pumpkins she has. You are able to walk through her garden and also pick whatever pumpkins you would like to have. With every type of pumpkin, she has put if the pumpkin is edible, a recipe and the price of course. When my mom and I were there, it was raining incredibly hard but that didn’t stop us from getting all the pumpkins we wanted. We took home a crate filled with lots of them. If you’re lucky, Monique shares some of her baked pumpkin goods with you when you’re there. Definitely a recommendation for my Dutchies!
⌇ Fall baking & cooking ⌇
If you’ve picked your own apples, picked out pumpkins or if you’ve gone to the supermarket and got your groceries, it’s time to bake or cook something. For example, bake a very delicious pumpkin bread, make a tasty pumpkin soup or bake an apple pie. Last year I didn’t make a traditional apple pie, I actually made an apple cinnamon cake. Oh my. This cake was sooooo good! This is something I will definitely be baking again this year. But I also want to try and bake a pumpkin bread with one of the pumpkins we got from Monique’s Pumpkin Factory.
⌇ Organize friendsgiving ⌇
Who remembers the episode of Friends where they celebrate Thanksgiving? It’s such a memorable episode because it’s so chaotic. Chandler hates Thanksgiving and is complaining all the time, Monica is going crazy because she wants to make everything perfect, Rachel fails to bake a English Trifle and Joey just eats everything. One of the funniest episodes, I think. That’s what makes me also wanting to organize a ‘Friendsgiving’. In the Netherlands we don’t have Thanksgiving. But when there’s food involved, everyone is in! So, when organizing ‘Friendsgiving’, just let everyone cook their own dish and enjoy it all together. I am sure this will be a lovely night, just like the episode of Friends.
As you can tell, I had a blast at Monique’s Pumpkin Factory, even though it was raining extremely hard. I got some very cute photos (if I say so myself) and also some very cute, small pumpkins (which I’ve know used as decor in my room). I haven’t gotten around to a good fall walk through the woods, so that’s something I am planning to do very soon. Btw, another fun thing to do with pumpkins is of course carving them for Halloween (bonus fall activity)! What do you love most about fall? Which fall activity are you planning on doing?
Love,
Neeltje
