You Are The Burger To My Fries | Vegetarian Burger

Last year I decided I wanted to stop eating meat. At home we don’t eat that much meat, but when we did, I just didn’t like it and it made me feel worse. So why would I keep eating it? Well, that’s when I started looking for some great vegetarian meals. I have a couple favorites but this vegetarian burger with sweet potato fries is very easy and tasty! So here you go. 🍴

What you’ll need | Mc2 burger (from De Vegetarische Slager), a whole wheat bun, tomatoes, salad and a sauce of your choice.

How to | First things first, you always have to start by washing your vegetables. So for this meal you need to wash the salad and tomatoes (or other vegetables if you add anything else). I decided to mix different types of salad we still had in the refrigerator, like rucola and regular lettuce. Big tomatoes are the best to use on a burger (at least, that’s what I think). So I cut the tomatoes in slices and put them to the side.

Next is the most important part of this meal, the burger. My favorite vegetarian burger is from De Vegetarische Slager, so that’s what I used for this. You can also decide to make your own burger or chose a different vegetarian one you like. I had to cook it in a pan for a little. While the burger was in the pan, I got my toaster out, cut the whole wheat bun in half and made sure the insides of the bun got toasted. I think this gives a bite to your burger.

When the burger was fully cooked, I left it on a plaid while I put the burger together. I first put the salad on the bun, then the burger, then the tomatoes and lastly I put a sauce on the top bun to add some extra flavor.

What you’ll need | Sweet potatoes, different kind of spices (paprika, garlic and salt) and a dip of your choice (inspired by Uit Pauline’s Keuken).

How to | Let’s start with the fries! First you have to wash the potatoes (like you do with other vegetables). Now you have to make a decision, are you going to leave on the skin or not? I chose to leave mine on but you can also peel it. Whatever you like. Then you can start to cut your potatoes. Cut them whoever thick you like (I suggest making them about 1 centimeter thick).

For this sweet potato fries recipe, you don’t need any oil or soaking them in water. Just lay your fries on a baking sheet. Now add the spices you like. I chose to go for paprika, garlic and salt. I really like this combination. Mix everything together and make sure all of your fries are covered with the spices. Now put them in a preheated oven (at 180 C) for about 30 to 35 minutes. Every 10 minutes you have to check and turn them (the first time I made them they weren’t fully cooked, so it really depends on your oven how long they need to be in there).

Serve the fries with your favorite dip and you’re done! 👩‍🍳 I chose to serve them with a truffle mayonnaise. This is so tasty in combination with the spices I’ve used. Like I said before, this is one of my favorite things to eat. The burger is so good and I really recommend trying it, even if you do eat and like meat. Would you try this vegetarian burger? What’s your favorite meal at the moment?

This post has made me so hungry – I personally love veggie burgers, even more than regular burgers! And they are so much more nutritious usually too, so that’s a plus!

    Ok I’m hungry now!
We eat meat, but not that much, we eat a lot of vegetarian products as well and I like them too.
About the fries, I tried it, but the first time they got more soggy than crunchy, so I have to give it a try again.
I’ll keep this in mind, thanks! 👌🏾
