You Are The Pan To My Cake | American Pancakes

A little over a week ago it was actually pancake day. Of course I found that out way too late so I didn’t have any pancakes that day. Also it would have been planned way better if I would have posted a pancakes related blog post last week but yeah. That didn’t happen haha. But it’s okay because better late than never, am I right? In this blog post I am going to show you how to make the most delicious American pancakes and I also give you some options to spice up the simple pancakes so here you go!

For this blog post I actually used a recipe for fluffy American pancakes from Jamie Oliver. I found this recipe through a blog post from Poppy Deyes, which she did put up for pancake day (definitely check out her blog because she takes the most beautiful photos). Anyways, for this recipe you’ll need these ingredients: 115 grams of flour, 140 ml milk, three eggs, a teaspoon of baking powder, a pinch of salt and cinnamon. Besides that, of course you need a pan to bake your pancakes in, a bowl to mix all of your ingredients and a whisk (or mixer if you don’t feel like doing it yourself).

Before we start creating these delicious pancakes, I do want to give you some options to give a spin on the simple pancakes. Firstly, you can add chocolate chip to your mixture before baking the pancakes. Secondly, you can also add blueberries (if you like them) to the mixture. Lastly, put some small apple pieces in a bowl, add some cinnamon (and maybe some sugar) to it and then add this to the mixture. All of these options are really good and definitely worth trying.

Like I say every time when I am doing a recipe post, I would recommend measuring all of your ingredients. This makes it easier and quicker when you get started with the recipe (and you won’t forget to add anything). When you’ve done that, the first thing you have to do is add the flour, baking powder and cinnamon into a bowl and mix them together. Then grab two smaller bowls and start with separating the eggs. This may sound very difficult but it really isn’t. Just have two bowls ready so you can add the yolks to the other bowl when you’re done with the separating the whites. Now add the yolks and milk to the flour mixture. You can just mix these together with a whisk and it will look kind of like the first photo above.

If you’ve been paying attention, you might notice we haven’t used the egg whites and a pinch of salt yet. Well, it’s time for them now. Take another bowl (yes, you need a lot of bowls for this recipe haha), and add the egg whites and a pinch of salt to it. I would recommend using a mixer to whip the egg whites until stiff. You can test this by holding the bowl upside down and if the egg whites don’t fall out, you’re okay. It would really suck if they would fall out but yeah, just a little trick so you know when it’s done.

When your egg whites are stiff, add them to the other mixture you’ve made. Make sure not to whisk everything together but just fold the egg whites into the other mixture. The egg whites will make the pancakes fluffy and that’s something you don’t want to lose, right? It’s baking time! Get your pan out, put it on the stove (low heat), add some olive (or coconut) oil to your pan and add the mixture to the pan. Since you are making american pancakes, just experience with how much you have to use to create the pancakes you want.

If you’re done baking the amount of pancakes you like, it’s time to garnish and create the perfect end result. I chose to garnish my American pancakes with some of my favorite fruits, blueberries and raspberries. I put these berries on top of the stack of pancakes and then added a sprinkle of powered sugar. Besides the pancakes looking very ‘Instagramable’, they are also very delicious so when you’ve taken enough photos, it’s time to dig in! Mmm.

And that’s already the end of this blog post and I am so happy with the end result! While I was baking the pancakes, my pan started doing strange things so I would be so sad if that would’ve screwed up this whole thing I had in mind. But I just had to be patient and that paid off because look how beautiful my pancakes turned out. Very Pinterest worthy, am I right ladies? For the next recipe post, I already have something fun in mind… But for now, what do you think of my pancakes? Are you going to try them as well?

Love,

Neeltje
