Almost a year ago I went to Bar Lokaal in Leiden with Elba. We saw this place and were pretty interested to see what it was like. I remember this day very well because it was just after we had our first yin yoga lesson and signed up for the gym. How funny that we celebrated this by going out for lunch haha. Anyways, I was very impressed by Bar Lokaal but kind of forgot about it… So after some time I went again to Bar Lokaal at a couple different occasions I remembered to take my camera so I could share this hotspot!
BAR LOKAAL | Hartesteeg 13, Leiden
Bar Lokaal is located just behind one of the main parts in Leiden. That’s what makes it not as busy as other places, which I really like. At Bar Lokaal you can have anything from breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack, a drink and everything in between.
This hotspot is kind of divided in two parts. First you enter the ‘bar’ part of Bar Lokaal, which is secretly my favorite, and when you walk through to the back, you go to the ‘bistro’ part. Here they have an open kitchen so you can see your food being cooked. The ‘bar’ has to be my favorite because it has a brick wall (!) and you can sit near the window where you have a stunning view of the streets. When you look at the photos I took, you might also get the vintage vibes and relaxed atmosphere I think Bar Lokaal has.
First I got a fresh mint tea to warm up, since it was so cold outside and then we had a look at the menu. Since I had been to Bar Lokaal before, I knew what I liked and had an idea of what would be on the menu. The other times I was there, I got the shrimp croquettes on two pieces of bread with homemade mayonnaise. Sometimes I make an exception and do eat fish, but that’s only when it comes to shrimp. So this time I just had to go for the shrimp croquettes again because they are so good! On my recommendation Eline got them as well haha.
The funny thing is, a little over a week after I had lunch at Bar Lokaal, we had a dinner with my work for the new year and went to Bar Lokaal as well! This was when I was also able to try some other dishes of the menu. We shared burrata (my fave!), cauliflower, shakshuka and more. All of these were so good and every different from what I would normally eat. Going to Bar Lokaal with a larger group is also something I would recommend!
During summer you’ll definitely find me here more often because they also have a terrace so you can enjoy the sun and have a beautiful view of the streets and the church. I also know what I’ll get next time… 🥞 That’s something you’ll definitely see on my Instagram Stories. If you plan on visiting Bar Lokaal as well, you can find it at Hartesteeg 13 in Leiden. Have you ever been to Bar Lokaal? What’s your favorite hotspot at the moment?
