Since I have been very into all things interior, I have been thinking about something about styling shelves. The shelves on the wall in my bedroom are a prominent piece of decor and I get so many questions about it. That’s why I thought I would share five tips when it comes to styling shelves in your bedroom, living room or even your kitchen!
⌇ Choose your decor ⌇
First you have to think if you have any decor pieces you want to place on your shelves. Of course the type of items are completely up to you and depend on how big your shelves are. These items could be candles, souvenirs, vases, books, magazines, lamps, and/or photo frames. Maybe you even have a couple of pretty souvenirs from your travels you would like to display on a shelve, because that’s the perfect place for it!
⌇ Add greenery ⌇
You might have seen in some of my other interior post, I am all about greenery in an interior. I don’t know what it is but it just gives that something extra to a room when you add a couple of plants or flowers. And yes, when it comes to shelves, I think you should definitely add in some greenery. A couple of little cacti pots, a pilea plant (which is very populair at the moment) or some flowers. You can also place these underneath a stolp if you have one or just group a couple of plants together.
⌇ Make groups ⌇
When you are deciding on where to play everything, don’t be too must of a perfectionist. As a perfectionist myself, this is hard. But it’s also fun to play around with the items you’ve chosen. Play with the heights of your items, make groups of two or three items and maybe you are even able to stack a couple of items. Not everything has to be lined up or spaced out by 5 centimeters. That’s why I mostly start by making groups of items, lay these out, see what looks good together and then put them on the shelves. It might take a couple of times to get it right. But when you have it, you’ll love it.
⌇ Keep the theme or color scheme in mind ⌇
Just like I discussed when giving tips on how to make a flatlay like a boss, with styling your shelves you also have to keep your theme of color scheme in mind. Not everything has to be in the same color, but do play around a bit with all of your items to see if they go good together.
⌇ Don’t go overboard ⌇
Less is more. I know, sometimes it’s hard, especially when you want to display so many beautiful items you own. But trust me, it won’t look good. When you place everything on your shelves you have, it will look like one big mess. That’s why you should just select a couple of items and change it up every once in awhile. This way all of your items will get a chance to shine on your shelves.
Besides the five things mentioned I this post, of course it’s just important to have fun with it! Like I already said a couple of times, just play around with everything. These tips can also be used for the shelves in an open bookcase. I did it with the bookcases at the end of my bed and I am loving the end result. Do you love styling shelves? What’s your favorite decor piece?
