Who doesn’t like a good hot cup of tea, a big selection of cakes and catching up with friends? Well, I definitely do! The family I have been babysitting for over ten years gave me this sweet gift card to go this new place in Leiden and have a high tea with a friend. Since Eline had something to celebrate I asked her to go with me and in this post you’ll read all about it.
CHCO CAFÉ | Haarlemmerstraat 1, Leiden
CHCO Café is actually short for Chocolate Company Café. It’s located at the beginning of the main shopping street in Leiden, which makes it very easy to find. Like the name already says, this place is about chocolate. But not only chocolate. You can sit down here for a cup of coffee, have a sandwich or a piece of cake. Besides that, they have a big selection of chocolates, big or small.
I always have something to say about the look and feel of a place, since this is important to me. Whenever I go somewhere, the atmosphere adds to the experience of being there, right? CHCO Café is very spacious and has a lot of room to sit down. Besides that, I loved the interior because it’s kind of industrial with the exposed pipes on the ceiling.
When we sat down, we got to chose the tea we wanted. They had a big selection and in the end we went for verveine, which is herbal tea. Oh, and the staff told us we could ask for a refill any time. How convenient!
Since I made reservation we also got our food pretty quick. When we saw the plaid filled with food coming our way, I was very impressed. We got so much! Anyways, on the plaid there were two pieces of brownie and cheesecake, four little chocolates, small sandwich rolls with cheese and egg salad, small toasted sandwiches with oil and different chocolate spreads and a two skewers with fruit covered in chocolate on it. We started with the sandwich rolls and then went on to all the sweet stuff. As you can tell from the photos, it was a lot of food. So in the end, we didn’t finish it all so Eline took a big piece of brownie home.
Since CHCO Café is about chocolate, you are also able to get some special chocolate treats there. When we were there, they had set up the big chocolate eggs for Easter. The combination of flavors sounded amazing and makes me want to go back and buy some of them. Besides that, I enjoyed the high tea a lot. All of the things we got with the high tea were so tasty (yeah, they didn’t only look great). This makes me want to go back soon but also organize my own high tea with friends! Maybe a fun blog post idea… Which of these treats would you like to try? Are you an high tea type as well?
