Shopping is a lot of fun. Ever since we’ve been able to shop online, it has also become a lot easier. Easier to buy clothes and also easier to buy clothes you don’t actually need or will wear. Believe me, I’ve been there. So, this year I decided to start working on my capsule wardrobe. If you aren’t familiar: A capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothes and accessories that includes only items considered essential. Now let’s discuss the items I’ve recently added to my wardrobe and why they belong in my capsule wardrobe.
Shoes
Normally shoes or accessoires would be something I mention lastly in a blog post like this. Why not be adventurous and start with it? So, I actually went through all of my shoes and donated a lot. I found so many that I hadn’t worn for a long time. I tend to go for clean, simple shoes on the daily bases.
For example, white sneakers. I wore my Adidas Superstar sneakers to death. When the sole started to come off, that’s when I knew I had to replace them. I invested in these Veja Campo sneakers and, let me tell you, they go with every outfit and are super comfy.
With that, during fall and winter season, I hate to have cold feet. Ugh, even when I think about it, I start getting the chills. So, to prevent me from getting cold feet I grab my Ugg boots OR a pair of chunky boots. Recently I bought these white/off white/beige chunky boots. At first I wasn’t sure about them, but after wearing the boots a couple of times, I know how to style and feel comfortable in them.
Fabrics
It might not seem a big deal, but fabrics definitely are a big deal. Fabrics can make or break an item. This is something I’ve only released recently, kind of ever since I decided to only buy staple items to create a capsule wardrobe.
One of those fabrics that feel ‘rich’ and make every outfit look chic is tweed. Tweed equals Chanel for me. Maybe that’s why I love tweed a lot. I have a tweed jacket and tweed bag in my wardrobe, which mostly aren’t my first picks. But if I want to spice up a basic outfit, these items come in very handy.
Clothes
On to clothing items! I feel like I have completely changed my wardrobe over this year. I bought lots of new items and donated or sold others. Of course there are always some items you want to buy and put on your wish list.
One of the clothing items that I’ve wanted to add to my wardrobe, was a long wrap coat. Wrap coats are so pretty. I love the look of them. And then I spotted this premium coat at H&M and, of course, it was sold out. So, I kept checking and checking to see if they had it in my size. And… suddenly it was in stock. In a split second I put it in my bag and paid for it. It was love at first sight. I think everyone should have a long wrap coat in their capsule wardrobe because it’s so warm, cozy and looks great with a casual and fancy look.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I adore the pied de poule print. It has the same vibe as the tweed fabric for me. It feels very chic. This pied de poule sweater is perfect to throw on with a pair of black jeans and black boots. So simple but it still looks like you put in effort to put this outfit together.
Comfort above all, am I right? There are so many things 2020 has taught us and investing in comfortable clothing items is one of them. Right now zip up sweaters are very trendy. I wouldn’t suggest spending a lot of money on trendy pieces but these zip up sweaters are besides comfy also very easy to style. I have one in this light grey color and I think I will get a lot of use out of it.
I really enjoy cleaning out my closet, seeing what still fits my style and what I want to add to my wardrobe wish list. Right now I have a dark grey sweater and wool scarf on my wardrobe wish list. Now I need to chill on the shopping because the holidays are coming up… and I still have to make two wish lists since my birthday is also almost here. Anyways, I am very happy with the progress I’ve made with my capsule wardrobe! Have you ever heard of a capsule wardrobe? What clothing items do you consider essential?
Love,
Neeltje
