Picking Your Own Flowers | Lokale Bloemetjes, Amsterdam

Picking your own flowers and creating a wild flower bouquet with them. That’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a really long time. I love flowers and I discovered this concept I wasn’t familiar with: flower picking gardens. You go to these garden with tons of flowers, pick and cut the flowers you like and create a bouquet with these. Such a fun summer activity to do! So, on a warm summer day, Eline and I went to Amsterdam and visited Lokale Bloemetjes, one of these flower pickings gardens.

LOKALE BLOEMETJES | Nico Broekhuysenweg 22, Amsterdam

I got to know Lokale Bloemetjes because of Instagram (like I do with most things these days). I found their Instagram account and was impressed with the stunning photos on their account and then saw what Lokale Bloemetjes was. Lokale Bloemetjes is an organic flower picking garden in Amsterdam.

“In the first sustainable flower picking garden in Amsterdam, you can see how we grow our flowers in a nature-friendly way, and you can come and pick a responsible bunch of flowers yourself. We offer variety in  flowers every year but also have a wide range of perennial wild flowers, dahlias and more.”

Getting to Lokale Bloemetjes it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but it’s still Amsterdam. Luckily all the directions at the gardens are very easy to follow. At Lokale Bloemetjes they have a little booth with all the things you need while picking your flowers and of course some information on how everything works.

How it works:

  • Grab a vase or bucket and a pair of scissors
  • Add water to your vase or bucket
  • Enter the garden and walk in between the beautiful flowers
  • Cut flowers you like (5 centimeters from the ground)
  • Pack up your flowers in paper
  • When you’re home, cut all the flowers at an angle, arrange the flowers and display them in a vase wherever you want

As for pricing: a vase is 15 euros and with a vase you can create a big wild flower bouquet, so I think it’s definitely worth the price. With your bunch of flowers you can also create a couple small bouquets. Maybe a fun thing to gift to a family member or friends! When it comes to the flower picking, it brought me back to when I was a kid. When I was little we used to go on walks all the time (which I hated with a passion), so along the way I would collect a walking stick and pick flowers. Now I want a flower garden like this so I can pick my own flowers every single day. If you’re interested in visiting Lokale Bloemetjes, you can find them at Nico Broekhuysenweg 22 in Amsterdam. Have you ever been flower picking in a garden like this? What’s your favorite flower?

Love,

Neeltje

    Hoi Neeltje
Wat een leuk artikel zeg om te lezen, dat je bloemetjes kan plukken in Amsterdam. Leuk dat je er ook een boeket kan van maken.
