If there’s something I have developed this winter, it has to be a coat obsession. Especially, wrap coats. Oh my. Why have I never looked into them? Just around the beginning of fall I spotted this long wrap coat from H&M and fell in love. It was a pretty big investment for me, but I got it anyway and loved wearing it throughout the winter season. Because of the length of the coat, I wasn’t always able to wear it. For example when riding my bicycle. So, that’s when I asked my mom if she was able to make a short wrap coat for me. Like the angel she is, she made me one and it has become part of my winter uniform!

My winter uniform
Ever year, excuse me, every season I have an outfit I gravitate most towards. I can this my (insert season) uniform. So, hello! Nice to meet you. This is my winter uniform for 20/21. It’s so simple because comfort is key this year. This zip-up hoodie has been my go-to. It’s baggy, soft and looks cute as well. The zip-up part reminds me so much of going on a skiing holiday when I was little. In combination with this coat and a pair of jeans, I still look put together and ready for the day. Even on cold, winter days.

Wrap coat made by my mom
And of course a special segment about the wrap coat my mom made me. Last year, my mom also made me a coat. That coat is a bit different from this one. It’s a lot more casual and has the look of a cardigan. This time I wanted something completely different and that was also a bit more difficult. When you buy a clothing item, you never realize the thought and craftsmanship that goes into it. I helped (as much as I could) and saw what it takes to create a wrap coat. From selecting the type of coat to sketching the different parts of the coat and cutting the fabric. Whenever I see my mom making clothing herself, I am sad I didn’t learn how to sow better when I was little. But I did learn something: I actually learnt how to cut fabric and how you should hold your scissors on the right part of the fabric.

All in all, the end result of this coat is spectacular (if you ask me). When I showed my grandma the coat, she thought I bought online from somewhere. Lucky me, I can still wear it in spring as well. The coat isn’t as thick as it looks. With a t-shirt underneath, it’s still wearable on a little warmer days. Oh, another part (and last but not least) of the coat I adore (besides it being one of a kind and a wrap coat) is the color. It’s such a warm color and looks good with jeans but also all black. As you can tell, I am totally raving about this coat. So, I will leave it at this. What do you think of my wrap coat? Do you have a favorite coat at the moment?
Love,
Neeltje
Love your winter uniform! Your coat is lovely. Having a good scarf is a staple for me as well as we get into warmer days now but the mornings are still chilly!

Your mom is awesome! It’s such a lovely coat and something that I would wear myself. Right now I have a mustard yellow wrap coat that I’m loving for this time of year!
