After winter, there is always something I look forward to and that’s blossom season. In Leiden there are different spots with a lot of cherry blossom trees. Since I am not always in Leiden, I don’t get to see in person if the cherry blossom trees are ready… That’s where Instagram comes into play. I am here spilling my secrets BUT at Volkenkunde (a museum in the city centre) are a couple cherry blossom trees. So, I just look up where they are tagged and what photos are posted with ‘Volkenkunde’ as its location. As soon as I see some photos featuring the blossom trees, I plan to go there and take photos (like I did some years ago), since I love cherry blossom season!

A season with a hint of pink
First off, what’s not to love about blossom season? I think it’s the hint of pink that gives everyone a look at what’s ahead: spring and warmer weather! These past months the weather has been crazy here. From storms to snow and summer temperatures. I wasn’t sure when the blossoms would start to bloom and all of a sudden it was time. On the day Claudia and I went to the cherry blossom trees at Volkenkunde, it was a cloudy day. Even when it’s cloudy it looks beautiful. I think the pink of the blossoms stands out more when it’s cloudy. I think we were pretty lucky to have captured the cherry blossoms when we did because this season has come and gone so quick… Next year I want to go to the Bloesempark in Amsterdam. This is a park with 400 cherry blossom trees. 400! That’s definitely the place to be at the beginning of spring.

Looking back at the photos I took, I am sad this part of spring is already over. Taking close-up photos of flowers is one of the things I love. They are so detailed and when they have a bright color, like pink or yellow, the photos turns out even prettier. On my photography Instagram account (@neeltje.jpeg) is the place where I share more nature type photos. During my walks I always see something I want to capture. I used to post them to my Story but those disappear after 24 hours and these photos deserve more than that. So, if you’re into photography, check out my other Instagram account as well! Do you have cherry blossom trees where you live?
Love,
Neeltje
